Summer Learning Journey 2017 | Week 2, Day 5, Bonus Activity
Kia Ora everyone,
I have been reading some of the delicious recipes that you have shared and I wanted to share with you my favourite sweet treat. I LOVE to make caramel slice! In fact, I'm going to make some tomorrow so that I can share it with my family on Christmas Day. I have included the recipe below in case any of you want to try and make it too. It's so yummy! I have slightly adapted the recipe that I found on the Cadbury website. The picture also came from the Cadbury website.
Let me know if you give it a try!
Remember, when you post your recipes for this activity, you will need to include a list of ingredients so that people know how much of each ingredient you need to use.
CARAMEL SLICE
INGREDIENTS
BASE
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup desiccated coconut
125g butter, melted
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
CARAMEL
2 x 395g cans sweetened condensed milk
½ cup golden syrup
80g butter, chopped
1 pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
CHOCOLATE
125g dark chocolate
90g butter, chopped
METHOD
Sift together the flour, cocoa and cinnamon into a bowl and then stir through the sugar and coconut. Add the melted butter and vanilla essence and stir to combine. Press into the base of a greased and paper lined 28cm x 18cm slice pan (ensure paper extends 5cm above the top of the pan). Bake in a moderate oven 180°C for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
Combine the condensed milk, golden syrup, vanilla extract, salt and 80g butter in a saucepan and gently heat, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth. Pour over the base, smooth the surface and then bake in a moderate oven 180°C for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
Gently melt together the chocolate and 90g butter in a bowl over simmering water. Spread over the slice and chill until set. Store chilled in an airtight container until required. Cut into pieces and serve at room temperature.
